Dan Baxter 1948-1986
"Daniel Bischoff Baxter was born in Ogden and died in Salt Lake City. He was one of the most talented figure painters and portraitists to come out of the University of Utah classroom of Alvin Gittins, who was the master of painting in that realm. In the 1970s, Baxter was teaching at the U of U and working on commissions for clients in California when he won the grand prize at the Annual Deseret News Art Show (1975). Gittins urged him to go to New York City, where Baxter's painting success continued through the years in New York, San Francisco, and Salt Lake City. (b. July 7; d. November 13."
