Edward Daniel Tavernia 1889-1962
Tavernia was born in Wisconsin to a French Canadian father and a Bavarian mother, he lived his adult in Nevada, mostly as a miner, and judging by this particular painting, was an accomplished if somewhat unknown artist. Given the research I have done of a few other Nevada artists of the early 20th century, there seems to be quite a bit of artistic talent for painters' who made their living with professions other than art.
This is a wonderful plein air desert landscape, with a very pleasing, complementary palette and outstanding composition.
